Cameroon/ follow-up Committee on the recommendations of the Grand National Dialogue: the 4th session evaluated by the Prime Minister
The Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion NGUTE, chaired, yesterday Friday, August 4, 2022, the 4th session of the Follow-up Committee for the implementation of the recommendations of the Grand National Dialogue.
Thanks to the implementation of the recommendations of the Great National Dialogue, held in Yaoundé from 30 September to 4 October 2019, peace is gradually returning to the North-West and South-West Regions. This is the observation made by the Steering Committee in charge of following up the recommendations of the said Dialogue. « to accelerate the pace of these reforms in order to meet the aspirations of all Cameroonians”, during the 3 session held in Bamenda, notable progress was made in order to satisfy the grievances of the populations of the two regions of the Northwest and Southwest, noted the Prime Minister, Head of Government.
For Joseph Dion NGUTE, important actions such as the adoption and promulgation by the Head of State of the law on decentralization which specifically grants the southwest and northwest regions a special status based on their historical and cultural values, the creation by the President of the Republic of the Presidential Plan for Reconstruction and Development, the promulgation of the law on the promotion of bilingualism and the creation of the Centres for Demobilization, Disarmament and Reintegration (DDR) have helped to boost the implementation of the recommendations of the Grand National Dialogue. According to the Head of Government, the facilitation of the drafting and signing of decrees allowing local authorities to organize their daily operations is a major step forward. 90% of the implementing decrees have been drafted and are in the process of being pre-signed and approved; the repentant fighters, he said, have benefited from a development of skills, a de-radicalization. Thanks to the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development of the South-West North-West Regions, our communities have started to revive their local economy, as the destroyed basic infrastructure begins to be rehabilitated, ”he said. Not without appreciation for the work done by the Defence and Security Forces to protect populations and their property.
At the same time, Joseph Dion NGUTE denounced the attitude of the “separatist fighters” who, annihilated by the firepower of the army, turned into bandit fighters, kidnapping their own brothers and sisters for a derisory sum and vandals who engage in “gratuitous killings”. These, he reveals, are now vomited and considered persona non grata in many villages and localities. “The illusion of ‘Ambazonia’ has turned into a veritable mafia organization and some of their sponsors are ruthless crooks who also find themselves abroad and pretend to be freedom fighters. Can’t they be sensitive? what happens to their once cherished communities?”, he asked before launching: “In short, the situation is changing radically and positively every day . The population gradually rejects and denounces polarizing separatist rhetoric and separatist propaganda and targets.”
