The Construction is almost complete, setting the tone of a new growth chapter for the 9 year old-wholly government owned diamond marketer.
This breath taking construction site is located at Gaborone Diamond Hub, along the airport road.
Okavango Diamond Company (ODC), is a rough diamond marketing company that is wholly owned by the Botswana Government.
Launched in 2013, ODC has quickly emerged as one of the leading global suppliers of responsibly sourced natural diamonds.
The company offers its customers the largest supply of natural rough diamonds exclusively of Botswana origin.
ODC obtains its rough diamonds directly from Debswana, whose diamond mining operations are located across Botswana in Orapa, Letlhakane, Damtshaa and Jwaneng mines.
Thereafter, rough diamonds are sold through ODC’s transparent online auctions to a global customer base who ultimately polish diamonds and produce diamond jewellery destined for the world’s largest consumer markets.
Set up to sell Botswana diamonds outside De Beers price book and channels, ODC registered the highest rise in sales revenue last year clocking around P10 billion, over 400 percent growth when mirrored against the 2020 performance.
ODC is seen as critical player in Botswana’s diamond beneficiation ambitions, the company announced last year that it intends to expand its scope beyond Debswana diamonds.
« Currently we depend on a single supply source, which is Debswana, through Diamond Trading Company Botswana (DTCB) channel, but we are saying looking at the expansion of our facilities , and offices, we think we have the capacity to handle more diamonds from other suppliers, not just Debswana,” ODC Managing Director Mmetla Masire said late last year charting a new growth path for the state-owned diamond seller.
